Film industry bible SCREEN DAILY today led with the exclusive that renowned Epping-born actor Danny Mays has signed on to play the male lead in our next feature; the story of one British family, TWO FOR JOY.
A hugely talented and versatile actor, Danny is the owner of one of the most recognisable faces in British acting and is equally adept at playing lovable rogues as he is playing damaged and dangerous men on the edge. He already has a formidable body of work behind him having worked with Mike Leigh several times, alongside Joe Wright (ATONEMENT), Steven Spielberg (TINTIN) and Neil Jordan (BYZANTIUM). More recently he had a supporting role in ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY and starred in the most-watched original BBC drama in ten years LINE OF DUTY. Playing LIAS in TWO FOR JOY will see Danny and Tom work together for the second time, having collaborated on the unflinching short film produced by Blonde To Black Pictures and Partizan, 2015’s RAGS.
Alongside Danny, the breakout star of last years 6th season of HBO’s GAME OF THRONES, Bella Ramsey, will play troubled teen Miranda. Best known for playing pint-sized firebrand Lyanna Mormont in the long running TV series, Bella has also appeared in the BBC’s THE WORST WITCH and will voice the lead in Netflix’s upcoming HILDA animated series, alongside a supporting role in HOLMES & WATSON with Will Ferrell, John C Reilly, Hugh Laurie and Rebbecca Hall.
Emilia Jones has also joined the cast to play one of the younger leads, VI. At only 15, Emelia has already appeared in DOCTOR WHO, PIRATES OF THE CARRIBEAN, Paolo Sorrentino’s YOUTH alongside Michael Kane, Harvey Keitel, Paul Dano and Rachel Weisz, and Ben Wheatley’s HIGH-RISE. Her most recent feature BRIMSTONE, a western thriller, saw her line-up alongside Dakota Fanning, Guy Pearce, and Kit Harrington.
The final addition to the cast is Badger Skelton, who will play the younger brother to VI, TROY. One of three Skelton brothers, all of whom act, Badger has also appeared in DOCTOR WHO, alongside several shorts including 2014’s STRINGS, directed by the BAFTA nominated director Richard Turley.
In the Screen Daily article Tom discusses his stellar cast – ”The talent and maturity of our young cast in response to a very emotional and intense script has been incredible. Watching them bring my characters to life has been truly moving.”
TWO FOR JOY, co-produced with Michael Wiggs at Size Nine Productions and developed with Creative England began shooting this week in Dorset.
